Meeting Notes - October 11, 2000

6/5/2016

State Street/Central Neighborhood Association
Meeting Minutes
October 11, 2000    Houghton Round Table Pizza

Bob Burke, President of the Kirkland Heritage Society, gave a presentation on the Buy a Paver program that his organization and the city of Kirkland are sponsoring to raise money for the restoration of the historic church that has been relocated on the Waverly Site.

Don Winters read the minutes from the August 3 Meeting.

Janice King updated us on the new playfields at Lakeview Elementary and how she is progressing in her exchange with Lake Washington School District and the Kirkland Parks Dept. over the upgrading of the fields to year round use and the negative impacts that might have on her neighborhood.

Leslie Keller gave the Treasurers report.  SSCNA currently has $2171.00 in the checking account.  We had to return $1500.00 dollars in 1999 unused grant money and $46 in unsupported receipts we had submitted.

John Alberti led a discussion on the 2001 matching grant money and what projects we should propose to make use of it.  Dave Asher, city councilperson, and Kari Page were on hand to help with the discussion.  Kari mentioned how grant money can be carried over from year to year needn't be returned if not used in one year.  Public art, kiosks, trash cans, welcome packets for newcomers to the neighborhood, and communications needs such as our web site, flyers, and newsletters were mentioned as needs to be funded.  We need someone to write a proposal for the grant money by Oct. 20.

A slate of new officers for SSCNA was proposed and voted in.  The new officers will be:
Lauralee Pritt -- Co-chair
John Alberti   -- Co-chair
Leslie Keller  -- Treasurer
Don Winters  -- Secretary

It was decided to change the name of our association from the State Street/Central to the Moss Bay Neighborhood Association.  What this will entail--charter revision, new web domain-- will be investigated before our December meeting.

Jeremy McMahon, city planner, Dick Beazell from Kirkland Downtown on the Lake, and Ellen McMahon from SSCNA gave a presentation on the Downtown Strategic Plan.  Strategies for improving downtown were presented, including ways to balance pedestrian and auto uses, and maintaining Kirkland's quaint character.  A main focus of the plan is to create a pedestrian corridor between Park Place and Marina Park.  One proposal is to build a lid over the existing Marina Park lot, thereby creating a  plaza above.

There will be a traffic meeting Oct. 30, 7PM, at the Houghton Fire Station hosted by Tracy Burrows of the Neighborhood Traffic Control program of the City of Kirkland.  A presentation of the proposed speed bumps on 7th Ave. S. will be given.

The next SSCNA meeting will be December 13, 6:30PM, at the Houghton Round Table Pizza
